I've just started working with RHEL 6 on Power and might need a little guidance to proceed. I've done a basic install of RHEL 6 on Power (P5, in my case, but I assume P6 or P7 would yield the same result). However, there doesn't seem to be an option any more in the install process to specify which software is installed. I assumed it would then pick a default list and I could modify it after installation. However, the "default" install was extremely thin. So much so that I found it very difficult to get a network installation server (Kickstart) set up on this machine. I've read through Red Hat'
I'm trying to build a local yum repo for my lab environment. I built a Oracle Linux 5.6 server and registered it with my assigned CSI. I selected the checkbox "Yum Server" and have followed all of the steps in this document http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/linux/yum-repository-setup-085606.html. When I go to run the script 167283.sh, it returns the following error:"This system may not be updated until it is associated with a channel"The system is associated with a channel, in fact, several.I selected a 5.6 build for this repo server because it was the latest 5.x release, but I'm wonder
I'm trying to install SysDirector 6.2 Management Server on a P755 with RHEL 6. Unfortunately the installer works only on RHEL4 or 5. There's a way to bypass this limitation or an ETA for an upgraded version of SysDirector compatible with RHEL 6?
i installed fedora 7 through the DVD. so, i edited the yum repo location to the local media.now i'm planning to install beryl through yum. i think i need to restore the repo location to the default url, i forget the url. doen anyone know?
i've been editing my repo files on /etc/yum.repo.d/ couple of days back to install packages from the Fedora DVD... after that i re-edit the files back to originalwhat i did i simply disabled all fedora and rpmfusion mirrors and justed added a pointer to my DVD... simple work and simple restoration to original...but i've realise now YUM doesn't seem to read the repos at all now... no updates and extra uninstalled packages available.... how can i fix this configuration or reconstruct or restore back to original config?Code:
This could be a mother of all integration exercises. I am running Xming 6.9.0.31 and puTTY 0.60 on a 64 bit Windows 7 workstation. I launch puTTY, set it up for X11 forwarding, and connect to a RHEL 6 server. From the server, I launch a program named virt-manager. virt-manager launches and correctly displays on my Windows 7 workstation. Inside virt-manager, running on RHEL6 and displaying on my Windows 7 workstation, I create a new virtual machine and go through the setup questions. If I check the checkbox that says "Customize" and click "Next", puTTY blows up and a window
I want to find out what are the modules get loaded during from initrd image in RHEL 6.Upto RHEL5, we can directly see "insmod" and "modprobe" calls in "init" file from initrd.img.But now, in RHEL 6, initramfs (initrd name changed to initramfs) doesn't have direct calls to "insmod" or "modprobe" inside init file.I "grep"ed in complete initramfs for insmod/modprobe, got very few of the module names then actual loaded modules.I tried to see in /etc/modprobe..., /etc/rcX.d.... ,etc etc. directories, but couldn't find out anything. Can anyb
I'm hoping someone out there knows the answer to this. I've been trying to figure this out for the last few days. I'm not a complete Linux newbie but RHEL 6 is just completely different in terms of the install from RHEL 5.4. I just installed RHEL6 with just the base version. During the boot sequence, I am used to seeing the option for Interactive Startup and Show/Hide Details on RHEL5.4. However, on RHEL6 all I see is a progress bar. How do I get the Interactive Startup and Show/Hide Details? I did update the /etc/sysconfig/init and set BOOTUP=verbose but that did absolutely nothing. TIA for a
Does anyone know how to add text, like a user agreement or notice, to the login box in RHEL 6, above the text box to type in the user name? In RHEL 5 you could do it through gdmgreeter. But gdmgreeter appears to be gone now, or merged somewhere else, in 6. The file is no longer located under /usr/libexec/gdmgreeter, and a locate (after running updatedb) does not find it. I cannot just have this on the background image.
i installed RHEL 6 as virtual host on one of the blades on HP enclosure. i set up network on eth0 and started it but i can not even ping gateway from within this installation. i logged in as root. i set up everything such as IP, netmask, gateway, nameserver etc. anyone has any clue ?
I'm working on a RHEL 6 base image for virtualization and I'm trying to pare down the things that we don't need. Considering none of the virtual servers will have wireless networking, I figured it'd be good to kill that wpa_supplicant process.Unfortunately, even with the wpa_supplicant service off, NetworkManager seems to start it right back up. There isn't any wireless devices configured, so I don't know why it does this.I can't even kill the process, it starts back up immediately. Is there something in either the Network Manager or wpa_supplicant config files that would disable it permanentl
Some particulars:- I am running with Oracle UEL 6.0 (2.6.32-100.28.5.el6) because stock RHEL 6.0 (2.6.32-71.el6 ) has issues with the async I/O driver. - The test is a high throughput performance benchmark running on Oracle 11gR1- I am pumping a lot of disk I/O through the system while running with enough users to max out the 8 CPUs, which get to 99+% utilization with RHEL 5.3- The server is a 4-socket Nehalem EX X7560. Right now, only 2 cores per socket are enabled.- There are GBs of memory left over. The disk response time of the SSD arrays is around 1ms and the arrays are capable of 4-5 tim

Greetings all, anyone has an idea why IBM Java is really slow on RHEL 6.0 based x86 distros such as Oracle Unbreakable Linux 6.0 and Scientific Linux 6.0. Just run $JAVA_HOME/bin/java -version takes 15 sec. ??? I have tried this on Oracle Linux x86_64 and Scientific 6.0 i386 inside VMware machine and on real IBM server with Xeon CPU and nothing installed (just base Linux system). Originally I tried to install IBM WebSphere AS 7.0 on Oracle Unbreakable 6.0 x86_64 but it took few hours in silent mode and profile creation using shell script took about 30 minutes. Build fails on RHEL 6 When using the spec file that gets generated from the MySQL source in 5.5.15. Tried this on RHEL 5.6 and it works fine. The problem is that on RHEL 6 the %install tag actual does a clean on the RBR which deletes the libmygcc.a file. The solution is to move the libgcc check below %install then the build works on both RHEL 5.6 and 6. Here is the code area I'm talking about: # Clean up the BuildRoot first [ "$RBR" != "/" ] && [ -d "$RBR" ] && rm -rf "$RBR"; %install # For gcc builds, include libgcc.a in the devel subpac

I've got a repo open for nightly builds of Deluge 0.6. For those of you that don't know, 0.6 is a complete rewrite of the client. It adds support for client/daemon mode, meaning the interface can run on a different computer than the backend. The user interface has also been redesigned. While I'm no longer one of the developers, I have to say I'm very happy with the progress the project has made with this release. :)http://launchpad.net/~zachtib/+archivedeb http://ppa.launchpad.net/zachtib/ubuntu hardy maindeb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/zachtib/ubuntu hardy main

I have a local RHEL5 yum repository which i created by copying rpms and then createrepo, Can anyone help me how to boot from that repository as anaconda does not recognize it to be a valid Installation Tree?
Hi. Does anyone have the official Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0 discs, preferably DVDs? If so, would you be willing to mail me some copies? I will compensate you via paypal for your time and effort. If so, please send me a PM. I would have used CentOS but they are still on version 5.x at the moment. As a last resort I would have subscribed to RHN, but my internet connection is really bad at the moment.

Not getting anything in the RHEL forums, so I figured I would try in here. Here's the issue. I need to create a login agreement where the user must accept in order to log in to the system. If they select cancel to the agreement, they need to be immediately logged off. I am using a zenity question window for this purpose. I have the zenity window info in the /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default file, which also creates a file in temp if they select cancel. In the /etc/gdm/PreSession/Default file, I have an if statement that looks for that file in temp, and if it sees it, issues a command to log the user a
Was looking into RHEL clones that use their source but have their brand remove and are therefore free to use.Are there any larger differences between those three (performance, security, usability) or do they provide on par performance and the only benefits are their respective communities that allow support, be it paid or free?
I'm in the process of building a Linux server using spare desktop (HP dc 7700p PC with USB wireless adapter) and of course it will be used as the wireless security training exercise so I just wondering if Ubuntu or RHEL is suitable for me to learn ?BackTrack Linux is too hard to use and doesn't automatically detect the USB wireless network card usually.

all! I'm trying to change the desktop to KDE so that it's persistent across boots. I did the usual thing of adding /etc/sysconfig/desktop and adding the appropriate parameters, but for whatever reason, whenever I reboot, it still loads Gnome. Now here's where it gets annoying: I can switch to runlevel 3, type startx, and then it will read /etc/sysconfig/desktop and load KDE properly.I've been banging my head against a wall over this one. Where is the call made to start gdm?I think I'll probably wind up changing the default runlevel to 3, but I'm still curious as to why those scripts are not exe
