When I was a windows user, I was an avid MSFS user, and would like to get back into Flight Sim as a Linux user.I am aware of Flight Gear, but have checked out Xplane and like it better, so I will probably go with that.My question: Is it possible to import MSFS planes that I have downloaded/purchased over the past few years into Xplane, or are they completely incompatible? On the same note, would it be possible to import them into Flight Gear?I am not dual booting, and never going back to Windows, and from what I have experienced/researched, MSFS does not and probably will never run under WINE.
I've been trying to install Xplane 9 based on the tutorials provided on the xplane website for linux and am getting the following error:error while loading shared libraries: libGLU.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryI tried to trace back to the Mesa gl libraries and they seem to be installed (I also located libGLU.so.1 on my system). Has anyone come across the same issue?(I'm also using the most recent NVIDIA driver, 285.13).
How do you install x plane 9 in ubuntu 9.10?
Little problem with xplane!Xplane runs the system too hot, i have a dual boot config. along with vista 32, i run xplane on the vista partition as well, which runs fine with normal temperature and there no excess of heating or similar problem, the same settings used in ubuntu causes the system to go ballistic and fire up all the fans and the heatup ! feel like there must be some sort of tweaking that could help. (running 2 copies of xplane on the same system-vista installation+linux installation)THE CLIMAX :funny thing is that the vista copy of x-plane runs normal in linux as windows app.(wine
I'm working on a GIS project, and I need to convert a bunch of shapefiles into KML. I followed the instruction found here: http://code.google.com/apis/kml/articles/vector.html . I downloaded and installed GDAL (sudo apt-get install gdal-bin) and then used this syntax (my file is named Burkina.shp): ogr2ogr -f "KML" Burkina.kml Burkina.shp.I get an error that reads: Unable to open Burkina.shx or Burkina.SHX.FAILURE:Unable to open datasource `Burkina.shp' with the following drivers.-> ESRI Shapefile-> MapInfo File-> UK .NTF-> SDTS-> TIGER-> S57-> DGN-> VRT->
I am in a bit of a quandry and figured that asking for some clarity may be a good idea.I am looking at building a pc for home that will ultimately become a server/gaming pc. I am interested in flight simulators and have both xplane and MS flightsim x.Now my question, I have been looking at the Intel i7-970 hexa core cpu but now that Intel has released the I7 2600K I am wondering what to do. All the bench marks that I have seen says that the 2600K series leaves the 970 for dead in gaming which sounds ideal for xplane but i believe a better graphic card may be a better option, any guidance? Also

I'm a linux newbie who had an experienced friend get me set up with using jhat for X-plane. I just installed natty and I'm trying to do it again myself with no luck. I downloaded the jhat.tar.gz file and extracted it into my home folder into /bin/jhat. I am working on a problem in which I am having a hard time starting. The problem being:Every circle has a center and a radius. Given the radius, we can determine its position in the x-y plane. The center of the circle is a point in the x-y plane. Design a class, circleType, that can store the radius and center of the circle. Because the center is a point in the x-y plane and you designed the class to caputure the propteries of a point in programming exercise 3, you must derive the class circleType from the class pointType. You should be able to perform the usual operations on the circle, such
I'm about to start assembling the new PC. I have a 200GB HDD that I'll use for my OS's and I have 2x1000GB drives that I'm going to use for other data. The thing is that I've had a Windows Vista install disc with the Win 7 upgrade form (I had intended to build and use this PC a while ago). It seems a shame to have to install Vista this close to Win 7 release but I think that I probably will.I figure that I'll initially split the 200GB drive into 100GB Windows and 100GB Ubuntu partitions by using the Ubuntu Live CD and gparted. I'm not worried about space on this drive and will just split it 50/
I installed bumblebee to work with my two graphic cards (Nvidia optimus). I can find both cards and still have 3d with intel, so that looks good. The lspci | grep VGA shows both. With what command can I check which card is in actual use at the moment/for any specific program? A second question. How can I check performance? glxgears gives me output, but not for optirun64 glxgears since it just gives the optirun output 'bumblebee on.. ok'
First off, I have *carefully* read all threads on this forum regarding this issue, and whilst there seem to be a few tentative stabs at a solution "didya try ...?" or "what's in your ..." I wasn't able to discern an authoritative approach to finding a solution, certainly nothing that would qualify making it a Sticky, or anything. So, here's my problem: I recently upgraded my desktop from Feisty to Gutsy via online (2 gig or so worth download!) and now have a system that's stuffed. When I first boot, it comes to a black screen with:Log of fsck -C -R -A -a Thu Jan 3 06:54:28 2
Pretty much fiddling with my system, wanting to understand how it works, and simplifying stuff if I can. I have a Dell Inspiron 600M with the standard centrino wireless card. I having trouble with my laptop "freezing" for about 15 seconds and then becoming responsive for about 2 seconds and doing this till I manage to shut it down. During this time the NetworkManager indicates a loss of signal. Sometimes it does it make it the through shutdown, just sitting there with a black screen doing nothing. In order to shutdown down sometimes I have to go the command line "Ctrl+Alt+F5", and I get lots of "[17179758.236000] BUG: soft lockup detected on CPU#0!" coming to the cons

Well I have my ATI 9700 mobility working with 3D and OpenGL just fine as far as I can tell. Games run as fast as they always have. However when I start Xplane is shows the splash/load screen for about 1 second and the log file created says:"I can not find a 3-D accelerator card that can handle OpenGL that has correctly installed drivers. I will still let you run the simulator, but the frame rate will NOT allow for a good simulation. For you to fly realistically, you must use X-Plane version Classic, or get a 3-D accelerator card that can handle OpenGL."Also, I can run the Plane Makee
I have a new laptop running Ubuntu 11.04 with 2 graphics cards. :D1 intel integrated (works perfect) and a Nvidia 250M (wont work :( )When i install Nvidia's drivers (they are available on 'restricted drivers') they install nicely but when i reboot Unity says that my hardware does not support Unity. :cry:When i uninstall the Nvidia driver Unity works again. When i try to use Bumblebee (to switch from graphics card) Bumblebee fails with:ivo@ivo-W150HNM-W170HN:~$ optirun glxgearslspci: -s: Invalid slot numberlspci: -s: Invalid slot number* Stopping Bumblebee X server bumblebee [fail] lspci: -s: I
Sorry if this has been discussed before or anything, but I couldn't find a thread to answer my questions. So I'm looking for a new laptop and my questions are:1) What would be the best graphics choice? Both ATI and Nvidia now ship with hybrid graphics that don't work very well in Linux. Also, I have even heard some horror stories from ATI/Intel users concerning the drivers. So what graphics would be the best choice?2) Bumblebee performance and battery life?Since I've been using an Nvidia card on my desktop for years, I've kind of became an Nvidia fanboy. I've read a lot about bumblebee, but hav
So I recently got a Dell Inspiron N5110. As far as I can understand, it has 2 graphics chips: an Intel and an NVIDIA. Naturally, it runs on the Intel and Ubuntu doesn't let you switch between the two graphics cards. My problem: I want to play games as well as general use. So I installed a program called Bumblebee, which I'm sure some have heard of. It allows you to switch between the two graphics cards based on optimization. After huge effort in installing it correctly, I typed the command "optirun." It switched to my NVIDIA card no problem. After a little bit of gaming I wanted to s
I may have made a mistake. I recently purchased a Clevo W150HNQ with the fancy new i7 Sandy bridge processor. I have the new optimus technology. Anyway my installation of xubuntu went pretty smoothly until I tried to install the proprietary nvidia driver. I installed it and did the requisite nvidia-xconfig and it rewrote my xorg.conf as expected. I booted up and... nothing! No displays detected. That was quite depressing. I have been researching the problem for the past 5 hours and I come to find that the linux support for optimus technology is... lacking. It would appear that all video output
So as a new Ubuntu user with an Nvidia Optimus graphics card, I downloaded bumblebee which seems to be the only fix so far for the issue. The only issue I am having is....I am completely lost. I searched for a thread with a basic step by step, and if I missed it I sincerely apologize, but can anyone make sense of this application? I downloaded it correctly (I think at least...its in my admin tray), and I configured applications, but I cannot tell if it is working, and I keep hearing something about "optirun." I don't think its working because no 3-d applications are running, but I do
I recently found Ironhide as a replacement for Bumblebee which unaccountably stopped working after an Update Manager driven update to kernel 2.6.38-11, see this post http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1831892I purged Bumblebee but it still appeared when I ran service --status-all so Ithen removed the bumblebee* files from etc/init.d and etc/default. Why they weren't removed by purge I'm not sure. After that I purged nvidia-current and re-booted. I then installed ironhide and configured it. Everything then ran perfectly and by running optirun glxgears I was able to switch the nividia card
I'm not sure whether anyone else has this problem, but I have a laptop with an Nvidia card that uses Optimus (which is not supported under Linux). Right now, the only way to manage this is with an Open Source program called Bumblebee. I highly recommend the program. It's a godsend. But when I want to run anything on my Nvidia card (everything else defaults to the integrated graphics on my processor), I have to use the command "optirun" followed by the command to run the program. When I use the Linux beta for Desura, games are launched automatically from the Desura shell when I choose
Okay so i am on nvidia optimus and i have installed bumblebee to be able to actually use my nvidia card.Problem is to do it i need to run the command "optirun" before everything. So in terminal:"optirun <somegame>" for example to use the nvidia card instead of the intel one.My question is: How do i run minecraft correctly via terminal? It's a java file.
i'm noob in ubuntu, been trying to sort out graphics issue for a while but still not happy because i don't think its done correctly. I got an Asus N53SV-S1830X laptop recently with core i7 2670QM. I installed ubuntu 11.10 and everything is working smoothly but when i navigate to System Settings -> System Info -> the graphics comes up as ''Unknown" when i boot into the "other" OS i can see the nVidia card alongside with nVidia software and so on. i installed bumblebee but that didn't work so i installed ironhide, it looked like everything installed fine but not working well
I tried this:http://www.ivegotavirus.com/blog/2011/11/06/how-to-get-optimus-working-on-ubuntu-11-10-oneiric/and everything was ok!After rebooting i tried: optirun firefox and get this: The Bumblebee X server was not available, please check theBumblebee logfile at /var/log/bumblebee.logand log:[ 309.58] Bumblebee log started at Fri, 11 Nov 2011 16:56:25 +0100[ 309.58] Creating fifo /var/run/bumblebee.fifo for communication...[ 309.65] Making FIFO writable for members of group bumblebee[ 309.66] Power management is disabled, not disabling card on start.[ 309.66] Waiting for orders[ 844.20] Check
I run ubuntu 11.10 on a dell xps 15z.And after a month or so of being able to run gnome-shell (gnome 3.2) just fine. Today my laptop loads the gnome classic session, and no matter how many times I restart it it wont load gnome-shell.The default graphics card is an integrated intel one.the nvidia was supposedly working with ironhide.I thought the problem was that the intel graphics card got deconfigured, so I tried runninggnome-shell --replaceAnd got the following message:Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0".Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visualSo I tri
I have the following laptop:Dell XPS 15Videocard: GT540m 2gbProcessor: i7 2630qmRAM: 6gbI've just installed 11.10. After that my battery life was about 2 hours, slightly less. After that I've done the following two things which should've increased my battery life:- Installed bumblebee (it seems to work because if I run optirun glxgears the gears show up)- Added GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash pcie_aspm=force i915.i915_enable_rc6=1" in /etc/default/grubAfter that my battery life should've increased drastically to ~ 6 hours, but it still only is around 2 hours..Kind
I wanted to try out the games in the app store so I bought Irukandji. I was able to run Irukandji on another laptop, 64 bit Ubuntu 11.04, but now when I run it I get this error.ERROR: ld.so: object 'libdlfaker.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.ERROR: ld.so: object 'librrfaker.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored./opt/irukandji/Irukandji: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64This laptop is 64 bit Ubuntu 11.10 and it has optimus graphics so I run it with ironhide, optirun /opt/irukandji/IrukandjiIf I don't the problem is slightly
I have an Asus Eee pc 1215n, with two graphic chips on board, an Intel and an NVidia, managed by the NVidia optimus system.I installed Bublebee and it seems to work just fine, but the problem now is that I must prefix the command 'optirun' before launching an application which I want to be run with NVidia graphics acceleration. For example 'optirun firefox'.I want to setup this prefix command as standard for certain applications, so that whenever these applications are launched from anywhere, or by any program, they will be launched with the prefix command 'optirun' included. What is the best w
Hi. I'm a user of a laptop with GT310m, which is a optimus-supported card. After suffering from quite fast battery depletion, I installed bumblebee. After installing bumblebee, I can see a small increase of battery life, yet it isn't as good as proprietary driver in windows 7, but I can't open an application with the dedicated graphics card. After running optirun command, it reports me that the bumblebee X server wasn't available.I've posted the log file at http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/760115/I'm using Ubuntu Oneiric Ocelot (11.10). and i5-460M processor with GT310M graphic processor.* ps.
