  • Getting no sound out of my onboard VIA vt8237 sound card

i have my new computer working under Debian. I was able to install the sound card driver but there is no sound at all getting out of the speakers. I was able to install and use a SBLive 24bit on the same config (adding snd-ca0106 to the kernel), so it's most probably not an ALSA configuration problem. The mixer shows the different channels, XMMS can play songs (with ALSA or emulated OSS) but there is absolutely no sound coming out... i checked that the connectors were in the right jack plug. Perhaps the onboard soundcard is broken ?I pulled out the front-panel connectors to be sure there was n

I have tried running alsaconf, and it seems to work properly, but then i still have no sound. I tried running alsamixer, and i can unmute the master channel, but i can't raise the volume level. Is something holding the master volume at 0 ? I was also thinking that maybe the driver (intel8x0 ) may have become broken. Has anyone had a problem like this ? Any suggestions would be appreciated. The problems are PCI devices ... and I do not know how to find and install the correct drivers for them. Can any one help, please? Also, my internet broadband connection does not work when I boot up - only when I take out and reinsert the USB connection. Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks

  • No Sound

I recently installed Debian on my mother's Dell desktop. Everything has been working smoothly so far except for one problem: there is no sound at all (aside from system beep). I ran Knoppix off of a live CD on the same computer and was able to play some mp3 files (using the same speakers), so I'm sure the speakers and sound card are fine.I've had trouble with sound in Linux before, and usually I end up fumbling in the dark (figuratively speaking) until I manage to fix it; as such, I'm not sure what kind of information would be useful. Here's what I've gathered so far:aplay -l shows:**** List o

  • Ubuntu no sound

I know that this has been a common post but here is what has happened so far. I am running an Asus F50SF laptop. Originally after upgrading to 10.10 I only had sound from the headphone jack. • Ubuntu No sound in wine

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition on a Samsung N145 netbook. I'm using wine for several (well, two) programs, and it's working fine except that I have no sound in Spotify, which I'm running through wine. I tried typing "winecfg" in the terminal. On my otherwise nice and pretty fast netbook, this dialogue takes forever to switch tabs or do anything, and when I click on the "Test audio" button under the Audio tab, the whole thing hangs up and stops responding to anything whatsoever. I'm suspecting this has something to do with why Spotify won't make a sound.Help? :(
