I just installed Karmic on a brand new HP ProBook 5310m and I didn't realize I had no sound until I wanted to listen to some music. I am fairly new to Ubuntu. I am running 11.04 on a crappy probook 4510s. For school I have to use Elluminate. They have upgraded to v10, my sun java is at build 25 I think, but I get no sound from the session. Can some one help me with this. I have tried everything I can think of, this includes removing java jdk, apt-get update, even reinstalling sun-java6..... I do have sound through the internet, as well as with the media players. The correct drivers are installed and selected for my sound as well.Any help with this would be great.

I configured sound per beginners guide and passed sound test. After kde install I had no sound and no internet connection. I tried googling. same as my title, and could not come up with anything. i have arch linux 2.6.33-ARCH. I did a pacman -Syy and then again pacman -S kde. I still have same problem. Frank. This is my first few days on Arch Linux. Internet connection started working after I added DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond hal kdm to /etc/rc.config, and commented out inittab entries.I am not sure if my DAEMON entries are correct in /etc/rc.conf file. Here is what I have now. DAEM
i have my new computer working under Debian. I was able to install the sound card driver but there is no sound at all getting out of the speakers. I was able to install and use a SBLive 24bit on the same config (adding snd-ca0106 to the kernel), so it's most probably not an ALSA configuration problem. The mixer shows the different channels, XMMS can play songs (with ALSA or emulated OSS) but there is absolutely no sound coming out... i checked that the connectors were in the right jack plug. Perhaps the onboard soundcard is broken ?I pulled out the front-panel connectors to be sure there was n
I have recently installed vlc and the vlc-mozilla-plugin. The only thing wrong is that when a video plays, there is no sound. By the way, I am using Ubuntu (in case that makes a difference). Any ideas?

I am running a Debian system with the 2.6.17-2-k7 kernel. My sounds was working fine until recently, but just stopped working one day. I am not sure what happened. I have tried running alsaconf, and it seems to work properly, but then i still have no sound. I tried running alsamixer, and i can unmute the master channel, but i can't raise the volume level. Is something holding the master volume at 0 ? I was also thinking that maybe the driver (intel8x0 ) may have become broken. Has anyone had a problem like this ? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have been working at this for days now wi
i had no sound in sarge, so i updated to etch (actually, i had to install etch from scratch), hoping the sound drivers in etch would be newer. that didn't work, and i'm at a loss.

I have just reinstalled W98 SE ... got it working in basic mode ... hence i am here... but I have no sound and the display is minimal colours. The hardware profiles say there are conflicts and the drivers are not installed (unfortunately, I did not make a note of the hardware/drivers before I reformatted). The problems are PCI devices ... and I do not know how to find and install the correct drivers for them. Can any one help, please? Also, my internet broadband connection does not work when I boot up - only when I take out and reinsert the USB connection. Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks

I recently installed Debian on my mother's Dell desktop. Everything has been working smoothly so far except for one problem: there is no sound at all (aside from system beep). I ran Knoppix off of a live CD on the same computer and was able to play some mp3 files (using the same speakers), so I'm sure the speakers and sound card are fine.I've had trouble with sound in Linux before, and usually I end up fumbling in the dark (figuratively speaking) until I manage to fix it; as such, I'm not sure what kind of information would be useful. Here's what I've gathered so far:aplay -l shows:**** List o
I know that this has been a common post but here is what has happened so far. I am running an Asus F50SF laptop. Originally after upgrading to 10.10 I only had sound from the headphone jack. I tried to solve the problem of no sound from the built in speakers through some different ideas in this forum. To no avail and now I have no sound at all and I believe I don't even have any sound driver installed. there is no icon in the top right corner and after checking in System--> Preferences --> Sound it says in the output tab that there is only a "dummy output." I am very new to Ubu

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition on a Samsung N145 netbook. I'm using wine for several (well, two) programs, and it's working fine except that I have no sound in Spotify, which I'm running through wine. I tried typing "winecfg" in the terminal. On my otherwise nice and pretty fast netbook, this dialogue takes forever to switch tabs or do anything, and when I click on the "Test audio" button under the Audio tab, the whole thing hangs up and stops responding to anything whatsoever. I'm suspecting this has something to do with why Spotify won't make a sound.Help? :(
i use ubuntu 10.04 at home but i had a computer built for my new business and had ubuntu 10.10 installed and everything seems fine except the fact that i have no sound how can i fix this
